KI: Papst Leo kritisiert Nvidia-Chef wegen KI-Sicherheitslücken

Papst Leo XIV. has criticized Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang for his handling of the risks associated with Artificial Intelligence (AI). The head of the Catholic Church expressed concerns about the technology's development during his return trip from a visit to France, where he reaffirmed the need to take the worries raised by many AI experts seriously.

The Pope has frequently spoken about AI and published an encyclical, a type of papal teaching document, on the subject in May 2026. He argued that AI should be "disarmed" and serve humanity's best interests. Positioning himself on specific statements made by technology CEOs, however, was unusual for the Pope. Huang, the leader of the world's largest chip company, had previously rejected calls from US President Donald Trump to slow down the development of AI models in a coordinated effort.

Both OpenAI CEO Sam Altman and Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei had expressed support for stricter safety measures after several AI security issues. During a flight from Metz to Rome, the Pope mentioned reading about additional security measures Nvidia had implemented for AI developers, but questioned the seriousness of Huang's commitment to these measures.

"He said there are no barriers and no regulatory requirements," the Pope stated. "I believe the concerns raised by many AI experts must be taken seriously." The Pope disagreed with Trump's assertion that public concerns about AI were "fake news." He advocated for a serious approach to addressing AI risks: "If someone asks me if I am panicking, no, I am not, I sleep well at night.

But this is a problem we need to address and discuss." Nvidia recently announced new AI security tools that would monitor and prevent individual agents from causing harm, aiming to prevent future coordinated attacks like the one in July via a developer platform like Hugging Face. Since then, several other hacking incidents have been reported, including unauthorized access to health data in Australia.

Representatives from leading AI firms are set to meet with Trump at the White House on Tuesday to discuss the technology again, with guests including OpenAI CEO Altman and Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg.
