Kharghar Roads Covered In Dust As Residents Raise Health Concerns, Seek Immediate Action From Civic Body

A thick layer of dust has blanketed several major roads in Kharghar, prompting concerns about residents' health and safety, according to reports. Dust clouds are being generated by passing vehicles, especially during peak traffic hours, which are reducing visibility and deteriorating air quality. The accumulation of soil and construction material from ongoing development projects has exacerbated the issue.

The problem is most pronounced during the morning and evening rush hours when traffic is heaviest. The resulting reduced visibility poses a risk to motorists and may lead to accidents. Residents also worry that prolonged exposure to dust could have adverse effects on respiratory health, with some reporting an uptick in breathing-related issues.

The dust has even settled on the trees lining the roads, impacting the area's greenery. Residents have called on the Panvel Municipal Corporation to intensify efforts to control dust and ensure regular cleaning of the roads. Former deputy sarpanch Sanjay Gharat emphasized that the escalating dust on Kharghar's roads has become a serious matter for residents.

He urged the traffic department and civic administration to take prompt notice of the problem. Construction activity in the area is adding to the dust in the air, and residents are demanding that construction sites be made to regularly spray water to keep dust under control. They are also requesting that vehicles transporting soil and construction material be adequately covered.

Regular mechanical sweeping and cleaning of roads are also on the residents' wish list. The absence of routine road cleaning and water spraying, according to residents, has contributed to the rising dust levels.
