Kenya-Qatar trade hits Ksh3.89B as Chris Kiptoo highlights role of 80,000 Kenyans

Kenya's exports to Qatar surged to Ksh 3.89 billion ($30 million) in 2025, a marked increase from Ksh 3.372 billion ($26 million) in 2024, according to National Treasury Principal Secretary Dr Chris Kiptoo. The boost in bilateral trade stems from deepening economic and personal connections between the two nations. During a recent visit to the Kenyan Embassy in Doha, Kiptoo underscored the expanding relationship, emphasizing its foundation in trade, investment, labor mobility, and people-to-people ties.

Kenyan products such as cut flowers, fruits, tea, and vegetables constitute a significant portion of the country's exports to Qatar. Kiptoo revealed that more than 80,000 Kenyans work in Qatar, contributing to the Qatari economy while strengthening diplomatic ties. The Kenyan community's role extends beyond economic impact, as they actively participate in sectors like agriculture, infrastructure, and finance, fostering mutual growth.

Kiptoo's mission to the embassy also aimed to bolster Kenya's diplomatic presence and support for its citizens residing and working in Qatar. Recent bilateral discussions in Nairobi and Doha have translated into practical cooperation across various sectors, including investment and trade, with both countries exploring economic opportunities and strengthening their partnership.
