Kementerian Pengangkutan kendali semua lesen bunkering tahun depan

Starting from 1 February 2027, all approvals for bunkering licenses and related permits will be controlled by the Ministry of Transportation (MOT) as part of efforts to position Malaysia as Asia-Pacific's leader in this sector by 2030. Minister of Transport, Loke Siew Fook, stated that MOT will be the leading agency in the sector to ensure clearer and more consistent licensing procedures, while strengthening safety, fuel quality and environmental protection aspects.

"Starting from 1 Feb 2027, all approvals for bunkering licenses and related permits are slated to be managed by the Ministry of Transportation," he said during Malaysia Maritime Week 2026 at Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (KLCC). Loke explained that the revamp is crucial for developing a more competitive bunkering sector and meeting the needs of the shipping industry as the world transitions to cleaner marine fuels.

Malaysia had previously set the goal to become Asia-Pacific's bunkering hub by 2030. Consequently, the government will continue its Malaysia Maritime Bunkering initiative to develop a greener and more sustainable fuel ecosystem, including the use of fuels such as liquefied natural gas (LNG), biofuels and methanol.
