Iran’s judiciary chief demands crackdown on hijab compliance, claims 'nudity' distresses patriots

Iran's top judicial figure, Gholam-Hossein Mohseni Ejei, called for stricter enforcement of hijab regulations, accusing "social abnormalities" and "nudity" on Iranian streets of distressing "religious people" and "patriotic citizens." Speaking to the prosecutor-general, Ejei said the measures should aim to "protect people's rights" and "fight manifestations of corruption," while avoiding any action against Islamic law.

He noted that the president and parliament back his stance and that authorities should not be dissuaded by public opposition. Ejei's call came a week after the fourth anniversary of the death of Mahsa Amini, a Kurdish-Iranian woman whose death at the hands of security forces sparked nationwide protests in 2022. Ejei's comments, made amid fears that Iran's secular social movement might support the United States and Israel, reflect the regime's attempt to link hijab compliance with national security.
