Ljubljana, Slovenia experienced a surge in demand for .si domains following US President Donald Trump's comments about artificial intelligence at the United Nations General Assembly in New York. Trump criticized the term "artificial intelligence" (AI) as misleading, claiming it presented the technology as "fake." Instead, he suggested introducing the term "superintelligence" globally, short for SI - the same as the Slovenian domain suffix.

As a result, the number of registered .si domains in Slovenia has increased to over 200,000, up from around 3,500 the month before, according to register.si, the Slovenian authority managing and allocating domain names. The authority noted that this development began after Trump's statement. "Despite the significant increase in requests to all registration systems, all services are operating smoothly," register.si stated.

"In any case, we will closely monitor the operation and take individual measures if necessary to ensure the smooth running of the business." The agency also dismissed media speculation about alleged million-dollar profits due to the increased interest in .si domains and advised owners of brands, slogans, and companies without a .si domain to register one as soon as possible.
