India win women’s 4x400m relay gold at Asian Games 2026, sixth gold overall

India secured their sixth gold medal at the 2026 Asian Games, marking their second victory of the day, by dominating the women's 4x400m relay event at Mizuho Park Athletic Stadium. The team of Kiran, Poovamma Machettira, Prachi and Vithya Ramraj completed the race in a time of 3:29.69, outpacing Bahrain with a silver (3:30.21) and China with a bronze (3:31.02).

This win extends India's impressive streak in the event, as they have claimed the gold in six out of the last seven Asian Games. The success also followed a historic day for Indian athletics, with Neeru Dhanda achieving a gold in trap shooting earlier. Vithya Ramraj, who anchored the relay, had previously broken the national record in the 400m hurdles.

Her strong performance on the final leg helped India claim the victory over a formidable Bahraini team. Prachi, who previously won bronze in the individual 400m, and Kiran and Poovamma ensured India maintained their lead with strong starts. With this gold, India's overall medal count at the Games rises to 51, comprising six gold, 21 silver and 25 bronze medals.
