India-China ties 'better' now than years ago: EAM

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar stated that the relationship between India and China is currently better than it was a few years ago. This improvement came after resolving border issues, which had previously severely impacted the relationship. Jaishankar, speaking at an Asia Society event, noted that after the 2020 border standoff, all normal contacts between the two nations halted, affecting trade, official exchanges, visa issuance, and flights.

Once the standoff was resolved, normalcy began to return to the relationship. Jaishankar emphasized that the state of the border determines the state of the relationship, and a tense border cannot have a normal relationship. He also highlighted the broader trend of increasing multipolarity in the world, with the US and China's competition shaping global dynamics.

Jaishankar concluded by stating that countries are responding, calculating, and adjusting to find new accommodations and solutions in the evolving international order.
