Cyclists often miscalculate their speed, losing traction quickly if they need to brake suddenly. E-Bike riders should adjust their speed and reduce motor assistance on slippery roads and curves. Visibility and safety increase with more lighting on the bike, so cyclists should enhance their visibility to give other road users more reaction time.

Legally required front white lights, white reflectors, and rear red lights and reflectors are essential. Additional pedal and wheel reflectors are recommended. Blinking lights are eye-catching but not allowed by law. To improve visibility, cyclists can wear bright reflective jackets or reflective bags. Regularly checking bike equipment is crucial for a good autumn and winter preparation, including inspecting lighting, tires, and brake pads.

Tumburus stresses that tires and brakes should never be compromised, as these parts decide the outcome in case of a fall or danger. Properly inflated tires with sufficient tread are important for grip on slippery asphalt. Spike tires could be considered for better traction. Tumburus advises maintaining the chain with lubricating oil and removing salt residue before winter, as road salt can attack metal parts.
