Ground handlers suspend airline’s services over N300m debt

The Aviation Ground Handlers Association of Nigeria (AGHAN) has instructed its members to cease providing services to XEJET Airline due to an outstanding debt of approximately N300 million. This decision was announced on Monday, following AGHAN's accusation that XEJET repeatedly failed to meet payment arrangements it had previously agreed upon with ground handling companies.

The move has already impacted the airline's operations, with some passengers' luggage being transferred to another domestic carrier following the withdrawal of ground handling support. AGHAN's President, Olaniyi Adigun, and Vice President, Bashir Ahmed, emphasized that several indigenous airlines had previously resolved similar debt concerns by adhering to set repayment schedules, but XEJET had not followed through on its commitments despite multiple attempts to resolve the issue.

AGHAN warned that other airlines in debt to their members might also face similar sanctions if they do not comply with agreed payment arrangements for services rendered. The association acknowledged the challenging economic environment affecting airlines and other businesses but highlighted that ground handling companies are also grappling with significant financial pressures.
