Greg Johnson is making a strong case for the Outland Trophy through four games

Greg Johnson, a fourth-year veteran for Minnesota, has been named the Outland Trophy National Player of the Week for his impressive performance against Washington. Johnson, who was also a preseason second-team All-American, has surpassed expectations through the first four games of the season. After starting as a guard for the Gophers, Johnson moved to center for the first time since 2024 in Week 4, earning an 84.5 offensive grade from Pro Football Focus (PFF).

With 142 pass-blocking snaps, Johnson didn't allow a single QB pressure during Minnesota's 27-24 win at Washington. The Football Writers Association of America (FWAA) announced Johnson's award selection, citing his versatility and high grade that helped the team snap their five-game road losing streak. Johnson, a four-star prospect from Prior Lake, Minnesota, has consistently improved since his freshman year, playing at every offensive line position throughout his college career.

With the Outland Trophy awarded annually to the best interior lineman, offensive or defensive, in college football, Johnson has a strong chance to be considered for the prestigious honor, with semifinalists to be announced on Nov. 18 and three finalists on Nov. 24.
