Google battles EU over Android access for rival AI services - reports

As of now, the Google Assistant has been fully replaced with Gemini on Android devices. This migration from Google Assistant to Gemini began at the beginning of September and is now reportedly complete. Initially set for completion in 2025, the deprecation was later extended to 2026. Google officially announced the final timeline in early August.

Users across the US and Europe have confirmed that Google Assistant has vanished from their devices and accounts. The Gemini app has removed the option to switch back to Google Assistant, which was previously accessible in the account menu on Google app versions 17.60 stable and 17.62 beta. This change affects not only smartphones and tablets but also paired devices such as Wear OS, headphones, and Android Auto.

Despite these changes, Google Nest and Google Home smart speakers, displays, and other Google Assistant-enabled devices remain unaffected.
