Gilgil MP reveals why she opposed Gachagua’s impeachment

Gilgil Member of Parliament Martha Wangari has explained her opposition to the impeachment of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua. Speaking to a local media station on September 29, 2026, Wangari stated she disagreed with the move as she believed the threshold for removing the Deputy President from office had not been met. "Even during the impeachment of the Deputy President, I personally stood against my party, and I said I would not support it," Wangari said.

This decision put her at odds with party leaders, as she faced pressure due to her role on the Speaker’s panel. Despite this pressure, Wangari said she remained true to her conscience, warning that lowering the impeachment threshold could set a dangerous precedent. She emphasized that her politics are guided by principles, not party loyalty, and that she would condemn wrongdoing regardless of its source.

Wangari, known for her independent stance in politics, emphasized her refusal to take sides based on political affiliations and stated she would speak out against wrongdoing, even within her own party. When asked about her potential party affiliation in 2027, Wangari declined to commit but confirmed she would not seek re-election on the UDA ticket if elected.
