Gachagua condemns Samburu livestock killings, vows to meet Maa elders

Nairobi, Kenya – September 29 – During his ongoing US tour in Texas, DCP leader Rigathi Gachagua denounced the reported killing of hundreds of livestock during a security operation in Samburu, vowing to meet Maa community elders upon his return to Kenya. The Samburu County leader expressed strong condemnation of the livestock killings, accusing the government of using security forces to target pastoralist families' cattle.

He questioned the rationale behind catching animals in an operation meant to combat banditry. Gachagua stated that he would hold discussions with elders from Samburu, Narok, Kajiado, and other Maa areas next month to plan for their protection and the safeguarding of their property and livestock. Additionally, he criticized elected leaders from the affected regions for not adequately representing their communities. Currently in Dallas, Texas, Gachagua is engaging Kenyans living abroad.
