Former world snooker champion Graeme Dott jailed for 7 years for sexually abusing children

Former world snooker champion Graeme Dott has been sentenced to seven years in prison after pleading guilty to child sexual abuse charges. The judge at the High Court in Edinburgh described Dott's actions as a "gross violation of trust" and said the victims had suffered from fear, shame and anger due to the abuse. Dott, who won the world snooker title in 2006, showed no emotion during the sentencing and only nodded to someone in the public gallery as he was led away.

The court heard that Dott abused a girl and a boy between 1993 and 2010, using treats and disguising his actions as games to exploit the children. One victim, now a woman in her 40s, recounted Dott exposing himself and inappropriately touching her in the 1990s. The other victim, aged eight when the abuse began, said Dott molested him in a shower at a home in South Lanarkshire.

Dott has been moved to a different prison due to threats and will remain on the sex offenders register for life.
