Dubai driving tests get smarter with AI-powered system

Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has introduced a new AI-powered assessment system for driving tests, aiming to provide more accurate results, enhance transparency, and reduce inconsistencies in testing. The upgraded Smart Test System (STS) for light-vehicle yard tests integrates artificial intelligence, computer vision, vehicle tracking, and advanced data analytics.

Real-Time Kinematic (RTK) positioning technology enables the system to track vehicle movements with an accuracy of up to two centimeters, allowing for precise identification of errors in a learner's path and parking maneuvers. The system also visually documents learner errors, such as mirror checks and hand positioning on the steering wheel, and can track whether mirrors and blind spots are monitored during maneuvers.

The technology verifies learner identity through facial recognition and operates consistently in various weather and lighting conditions. The upgraded STS aims to provide learners with a clearer understanding of their mistakes and areas for improvement, fostering confidence in the fairness and objectivity of driving tests.
