Descartes launches AI agent for global trade data research

Descartes Systems Group has introduced an AI agent that enables users to search and analyze global trade data through natural-language questions, according to a Sept. 24 release. The Descartes Datamyne AI Agent, integrated into the company's global trade intelligence platform, can cut the time required for global trade data research and analysis by up to 90%, depending on user experience and query complexity.

Users can inquire about suppliers, buyers, commodities, shipment activity, and trade relationships, and the agent will provide contextual answers, visualizations, and access to the shipment records supporting the findings. The agent allows users to refine their questions and explore related companies, commodities, shipments, and trade relationships within the Datamyne platform.

Ken Wood, executive vice president of product management at Descartes, stated that the agent combines AI with domain-specific data while enabling users to verify its findings. This move reflects a trend in freight technology of embedding AI into existing software and proprietary datasets rather than standalone chatbots. The technology provides a conversational interface on top of Datamyne's trade data, offering a transparent and intuitive way for customers to accelerate decision-making and respond to changing global trade conditions.
