Buem MP Kofi Adams raises alarm over flooding, damaged roads in constituency

Ghanaian Member of Parliament Kofi Adams has raised concerns over the severe flooding that has devastated parts of the Buem and Hohoe constituencies in the Volta Region. The floods, which occurred over the weekend, have displaced over 3,000 people and damaged more than 400 homes after the River Dayi overflowed its banks. Hohoe Zongo, a community located along the river, was particularly hard hit with more than half of it submerged.

Adams described the situation as "pretty terrible" and highlighted that many residents are now without shelter. The floods followed days of heavy rainfall in Togo, causing the river's water levels to rise significantly. Despite the extensive damage, no deaths have been reported so far, thanks to the quick actions of security personnel and community members who helped evacuate residents.

One major issue is the collapse of a bridge, which has disrupted travel between some communities. The Roads Minister has responded to the situation and mobilized contractors to repair the damaged infrastructure. Authorities are also working to prevent a possible water-related health crisis by supplying strategic water to affected areas and advising residents to boil their water before consumption. Hohoe MP Thomas Worlanyo Tsekpo has appealed for urgent support to help the affected residents.
