Black Challenge unveiled with sights set on Amputee World Cup glory

Ghana's Paralympic Committee has introduced the Black Challenge squad for the 2026 Amputee Football World Cup set to take place in San Juan de los Lagos, Mexico. The event is scheduled from November 13 to 22, with the African nation drawn into Group D alongside Angola, Colombia and Iraq. At a press conference in Accra, Sports and Recreation Minister Kofi Adams called upon corporate Ghana to provide support before the tournament rather than waiting for success.

This appeal came after Gold Fields pledged US$500,000 in sponsorship, with US$250,000 allocated to World Cup preparations. National Paralympic Committee president Samson Deen revealed that each player will receive GH¢10,000 under the Target the Podium initiative, while each official will get GH¢5,000 to aid in morale and practical needs.

The squad, comprising 20 players, is scheduled to have a final training camp in Turkey next month before heading to Mexico. Ghana's provisional roster will be trimmed down to 15 players for the actual tournament.
