Bharatiya Kisan Sangh to hold women farmers' conference on September 30

The Bharatiya Kisan Sangh (BKS) is organizing a conference for women farmers on September 30 in New Delhi, India. The purpose of the All India Women Farmers’ Workers Conference is to recognize women farmers as vital members of society and to address the challenges they face in agriculture. This event coincides with the United Nations' declaration of 2026 as the International Year of the Woman Farmer.

The conference will see participation from thousands of women farmer workers across the country. One of the highlights will be the recognition of outstanding female farmers in various categories such as Gau Krishi Vanijyam (cow-based farming), organic farming, seed conservation, animal husbandry, employment, and food processing. Selected women farmers from different parts of the country will be honored in these categories.

It is crucial to note that women in India are responsible for 60 to 80 percent of agricultural activities, including sowing, planting, harvesting, weed control, and animal husbandry. For generations, women have played a pivotal role in preserving traditional agricultural knowledge, indigenous seeds, and biodiversity. They have been instrumental in shaping the concept of Gau Krishi Vanijyam, advocating for cow-based organic farming and natural farming methods that produce chemical-free food.

Furthermore, women contribute significantly to the economic well-being of their families and actively participate in agricultural management and decision-making processes.

The Bharatiya Kisan Sangh is the largest farmer organization in the country, with village committees established in over 60,000 villages. The organization boasts more than 42 lakh active farmer workers, comprising around 7 lakh women.
