Beed Congress Seeks CEC Gyanesh Kumar's Dismissal, Arrest

The Indian National Congress in Beed district has demanded the dismissal and arrest of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, claiming irregularities in electoral rolls and biased decision-making within the Election Commission of India (ECI). During a protest outside the Beed Collectorate, party leaders submitted a memorandum to the district collector, highlighting reports of discord within the poll panel and accusing the ECI of undermining its independence.

The Congress alleged that the commission was being manipulated to favor the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and sway election results. Party sources pointed out that Election Commissioners Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Vivek Joshi had raised objections against unilateral decisions made by the Chief Election Commissioner on multiple occasions over the past ten months.

These issues included the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, unauthorized voter registrations, deletion of voter names, and alterations to the ECI's internal IT systems. The memorandum also cited discrepancies in electoral rolls across several states, such as West Bengal, where 92 lakh voters were reportedly removed, Bihar, where numerous voters were removed, and Maharashtra, where around 47 lakh allegedly fraudulent voters were added before the 2024 Assembly elections.

Party leaders emphasized that these allegations echo similar claims made by Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi, who has alleged that India's electoral process is compromised to benefit the BJP. The Congress stressed that these actions pose a severe threat to democratic institutions, emphasizing the need for the removal and arrest of the Chief Election Commissioner to safeguard the Constitution and preserve the integrity of the electoral process.
