Anthropic's $518 billion AI buildout hinges largely on deals that cannot be canceled, filing shows

New York, September 29: Anthropic anticipates allocating a minimum of $518 billion across a decade to construct AI infrastructure through six associates, as disclosed in a confidential IPO prospectus obtained by Reuters. This commitment ranks among the most substantial AI buildout undertakings ever recorded. According to the prospectus, approximately 80% of this financial outlay is non-cancelable or necessitates payment irrespective of utilization.

Anthropic argues that this financial commitment is essential because the availability of computing power has emerged as the primary bottleneck hindering AI advancements. The organization projects that future demand for sophisticated AI systems will potentially surpass available supply, thereby being primarily constrained by the accessibility of compute resources.

Anthropic intends to invest a minimum of $111.1 billion with Alphabet's Google, $110 billion with Amazon, and $31.4 billion with Microsoft over a period of seven to ten years, irrespective of the extent of utilization. Additionally, the company holds about $161.2 billion in Broadcom-related equipment lease commitments, which are predominantly non-cancelable, as per the prospectus.

Anthropic filed for an IPO with the Securities and Exchange Commission in June, although its paperwork remains undisclosed to the public.
