Al-Futtaim programme gives Emirati students from Grade 9 an early start on private-sector careers

The Al-Futtaim programme offers Emirati students from Grades 9 to 12 an early start in private-sector careers. Supported by Al-Futtaim, UAE Nationals progress through the programme from their school years to management and senior leadership roles. Around 300 Emiratis participate in the company’s SINYAR talent development programme annually, with Emiratisation at Al-Futtaim’s UAE businesses at 20%.

Of those in SINYAR, 70% are in Explorer, a programme for students in Grades 9 to 12. The five-stage SINYAR programme includes Explorer, Graduate, Manager, Leader, and Elite stages, covering career points at various career phases. After Explorer, the programme supports graduates and develops managers and business leaders. Participants gain experience across Al-Futtaim’s various businesses and functions, building skills outside a single work area.

Progression is based on potential, readiness, and work performance. Mira Al Futtaim, Chairwoman of Emiratisation at Al-Futtaim and Chief Future Education Officer at Al-Futtaim Education Foundation, emphasizes the importance of creating long-term careers for Emiratis. The company aims to provide an environment where national talent can build meaningful, long-term careers.

Al-Futtaim began Emiratisation efforts in 1992, introducing employment, training, and development programmes for UAE Nationals. SINYAR is designed to provide a continuous career path for Emiratis, starting at school and continuing into professional, management, and leadership positions.
