Akwa Ibom crashes to second-lowest in 2026 NECO as Abia, Ebonyi lead

The government of Akwa Ibom State has launched a campaign against illegal mining activities. A task force has been established to enforce strict measures against these illicit operations. Environment Commissioner, Nsikak Ekong, revealed that numerous illegal mining sites have been shut down. He emphasized that certain miners operate covertly and depart without warning, prompting the task force to focus on tracking such activities. "These individuals are akin to thieves," Ekong remarked.

The Police Command also announced intensified surveillance in collaboration with various police units. They aim to monitor the movement of mining equipment and resources, as well as investigate individuals involved in unlawful mining practices. The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Timfon John, explained that unregulated mining sites could potentially serve as hideouts for other criminal activities.

He stressed the importance of monitoring mining activities to prevent potential crimes such as weapon possession and money laundering.
