Abby’s story and Reconciliation in child health

This article shares the story of nine-year-old Abby and her family's experience with Burkitt lymphoma, a fast-growing form of cancer. Diagnosed after a routine trip to HSC Children's Hospital, Abby began chemotherapy immediately. Her father, Steve, notes that the long hospital stay affected Abby's mental and social well-being. Despite these challenges, Abby is now back to her favorite activities, such as 10-pin bowling and spending time with her brothers.

The Children's Hospital Foundation of Manitoba is working to create a more welcoming environment for children in the CK5 ward, where Abby received care. Additionally, they are honoring National Day for Truth and Reconciliation by supporting Indigenous children, families, and communities with a focus on listening and learning.
