2027: Learning Yoruba not enough – Lagos APC tackles Rhodes-Vivour

The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has criticized the ADC governorship candidate, Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, for emphasizing his effort to learn Yoruba ahead of the 2027 gubernatorial election. APC publicity secretary Seye Oladejo urged Rhodes-Vivour to demonstrate a deeper understanding of Lagos beyond his language skills.

Oladejo argued that while learning Yoruba is important, it is not enough to show understanding of the city's history, culture, institutions, and governance challenges. He questioned Rhodes-Vivour's ability to address Lagos' problems, which include flooding, housing, and traffic, without providing a clear plan. Oladejo also criticized Rhodes-Vivour's remarks about his opponent, Dr Obafemi Hamzat, stating that Hamzat's experience in Lagos public service should be considered.

He challenged Rhodes-Vivour to outline his proposed solutions for Lagos' issues, rather than engaging in political criticism. Oladejo emphasized that effective governance requires more than political rhetoric and that the election should focus on candidates' knowledge of Lagos and their ability to implement workable public policies.
