2,935 held for eve-teasing during Ganesh Chaturthi

During the Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations in Hyderabad from September 14 to 26, the Hyderabad City Police's Special Helpline for Women (SHE) Teams apprehended a total of 2,935 individuals for engaging in eve-teasing and other objectionable activities. The SHE Teams were stationed at major Ganesh mandaps, crowded areas, and immersion routes, with a particular emphasis on the Khairatabad and Balapur Ganesh celebrations. Their primary objective was to ensure the safety of women and girls and prevent incidents of harassment.

Out of the 2,935 apprehended, 858 were counseled, warned, and released after verification. Among the remaining 1,077, 69 were convicted. Those convicted faced varying punishments. Twenty-four individuals were fined ₹1,050 for each offense, while 40 received a combination of social service along with the same fine. Five individuals were sentenced to both imprisonment and a fine.

The Hyderabad City Police took the matter seriously, employing the SHE Teams to maintain order and protect the well-being of women and girls during the festivities. The police worked diligently to ensure a safe and enjoyable Ganesh Chaturthi celebration for all.
