11 students injured after school van catches fire in Murree

Eleven school students were injured when a school van caught fire on a road in Murree on Tuesday, according to police reports. The accident happened near Bara Hotar Link Road, where a Suzuki Bolan vehicle transporting children lost control and burst into flames. Police and rescue teams swiftly responded to the scene and transported the injured children to Civil Hospital Murree for treatment.

Among the 11 children brought to the hospital, eight were reported in stable condition, while three sustained severe burns, with one child suffering burns covering 42 percent of their body, while the other two had burns to 38 percent and 26 percent, respectively. The cause of the incident remains under investigation, and authorities stated that legal action would be taken.

Murree District Police Officer Raza Tanveer Sipra visited the hospital to check on the injured students, emphasizing the commitment to providing the best medical care. Rescue 1122 confirmed that the passengers, all students aged between four and 14, were evacuated from the burning vehicle and only sustained minor injuries, despite the vehicle being engulfed in flames.

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz requested a report on the incident, expressing concerns over vehicle overloading and insufficient fire safety measures. This incident echoes similar accidents in recent months, including a school van fire in Karachi’s Shah Faisal Colony flyover that injured eight students and a tragic accident in Okara where a schoolgirl died and six others were injured when their van was hit by a dumper.
