유산기부와 공익법인 잇는 징검다리…‘레거시 10’ 도입될까

Three generations of skilled artisans in the traditional Korean, Chinese, and Japanese mulberry paper industries will meet in Jeonju, North Jeolla Province, from October 7th to 10th to share their craft and experiences. The Jeonju Cultural Foundation’s Jeonju Year of Mulberry Paper will host the 'Three Kingdoms Paper City' cultural exchange event.

Unlike the usual academic and theoretical exchanges around the paper, this year’s event focuses on practical workshops where the young successors from each country will share their hands-on techniques. Participating are Korean mulberry paper apprentices, two successors from Anhui, China, and two successors in Japan’s Hinai City, who are recommended by their respective national cultural agencies.

Attendees will explore local paper-making workshops, observe each country's traditional paper-making processes, and participate in exhibitions showcasing Korean, Chinese, and Japanese mulberry paper. At the 'Inter-Korean-Japanese Young Successor Networking' held by Jeonju Year of Mulberry Paper, the young successors will share their experiences and case studies on preserving and promoting traditional paper-making.

Successive representatives from China’s Zhenyong Paper Factory, Japan’s Yoshi da Yuko, and Korea’s Kim Jin-myung will each present their country’s paper-making techniques and future directions. The Korea National Cultural Foundation will also host demonstrations and hands-on experiences for citizens and tourists interested in traditional paper-making.

Japanese successor and Korean traditional mulberry paper apprentices Gi-kyeong Jeong and Hae-su Han will demonstrate the paper-making process, while Chinese successors will offer unique experiences in mulberry cultivation and traditional paper-making. The city of Jeonju, which has operated a traditional mulberry paper school since last year, plans to use this exchange as a stepping stone to nurture the next generation of paper artisans and expand international cooperation, aiming to establish Jeonju as a hub for traditional mulberry paper culture.
