White House jokes that Trump could sell weapons to China and Taiwan at the same time

White House officials have jokingly suggested that President Donald Trump may be willing to sell weapons to both China and Taiwan simultaneously during his conversations with Chinese President Xi Jinping. Trump's ambassador to China, David Perdue, revealed on Fox News Sunday that Trump had broached the topic of American arms sales to Taiwan, even inquiring if Xi would be interested in purchasing them.

Perdue stressed that Trump has consistently demonstrated strong support for Taiwan, having previously sold it numerous weapons. He also mentioned that Trump and Xi are still discussing future arms sales to Taiwan. Despite the U.S. being committed to providing Taiwan with defensive capabilities, there remains uncertainty about whether military intervention would be undertaken if China were to invade the island.

China has consistently urged the U.S. to halt these arms sales, with Beijing pausing a $14 billion transaction following a previous summit in May. Chinese officials have reiterated their stance on maintaining global peace and stability, while not confirming Perdue's remarks.
