Joe and Anthony Russo, directors of Avengers: Endgame and Doomsday, have been contemplating a storyline for years where Steve Rogers returns the Infinity Stones. In the final film, Rogers hands the stones back and settles back into a happy life with Peggy Carter, though that life will be interrupted by the events of Avengers: Doomsday.

Fans have long called for a Disney+ series following Rogers as he travels across the Marvel timeline, returning the stones to where the Avengers first found them. This idea sparked conversations among the Russo brothers, who explored the possibility of showing Rogers' journey but ultimately decided it would be too complicated to fit into a single film.

Anthony Russo mentioned that they thought of a montage where Rogers puts the stones back, but deemed it too difficult to sustain. The Russo brothers also discussed the potential of a movie depicting Rogers' journey, suggesting that it could be pitched to Chris Evans. However, no concrete plans have been made, as the Russo brothers are busy with Avengers: Doomsday and pre-production on Avengers Secret Wars.

If Doomsday picks up where Endgame left off, it will show Steve's story continuing after his Infinity Stone mission. This includes moments such as Rogers bidding farewell to Black Widow and possibly facing off against Red Skull one last time. As of now, there's no indication that this storyline will be realized, with the Russo brothers focusing on their current projects.
