Vote for Ames Tribune male Athlete of the Week for Sept. 20-26

During the week of September 20-26, high school male athletes from the Ames area showcased impressive performances across various sports. Seven area schools participated in Iowa High School football, with all teams competing on September 25. Ames suffered a 16-8 loss to Des Moines Roosevelt on homecoming night, while Gilbert claimed its fourth consecutive win with a 27-3 victory over Bondurant-Farrar.

In a surprising upset, Ballard defeated Class 4A No. 7 North Polk 21-14. Nevada secured a 21-0 win against Winterset, while 2A No. 4 Roland-Story dominated Vinton-Shellsburg 42-7. Nevada's Trevor Nusbaum contributed to their third-place finish at the ACGC Invitational, placing eighth individually with a 5-kilometer time of 17:23.5. Golf enthusiasts witnessed Ames' fourth-place finish in a Little Hawkeye Conference quad meet on September 24.

Among the standout individual performances, Gage Krogh of Ballard emerged as a force on defense, contributing three tackles, two interceptions, and four receptions for 46 yards. Gilbert's Tayton Warg stood out with an impressive five carries, rushing for 87 yards and scoring two touchdowns. Roland-Story's Braylen Chambers showcased his all-around skills by contributing 14 tackles and 76 yards on one scoring drive. Nevada's Trevor Nusbaum helped his team secure third place at the ACGC Invitational.
