Video: Ujjain tensions flare after clash over part of Shahi mosque demolition

Ujjain experienced tense confrontations between demonstrators and police over the demolition of a portion of the Shahi Masjid. The controversial move is part of a road-widening project ahead of the upcoming Simhastha 2028 religious fair. Heavy police presence persisted as unidentified protesters threw stones at authorities, who responded by using tear gas to disperse the crowd.

Rapid Action Force personnel were also on-site. A total of 272 structures have been designated for demolition, including the mosque segment. Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav personally witnessed the demolition of his own ancestral home, describing it as both an emotional and necessary sacrifice for the greater good of the Simhastha event.

Ujjain's Municipal Corporation Chairperson Kalawati Yadav highlighted the extensive preparations being made for the massive spiritual gathering, which sees millions of devotees annually.
