US, Iran set to hold separate talks with mediators on Monday or Tuesday

Qatari mediators are expected to hold separate discussions with Iran's Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi in New York on Monday or Tuesday, according to an official briefed on the negotiations. The purpose of these talks is to resolve the ongoing war. The talks will center around Iran's revised seven-day proposal presented last week at the United Nations General Assembly.

Iran's Foreign Ministry spokesperson, Esmaeil Baghaei, later confirmed Araqchi's meeting with mediators on Monday morning, but stated that the minister would return to Tehran as per his original schedule. The seven-day plan from Iran includes an end to hostilities in Iran and Lebanon, unfreezing billions of dollars worth of Iranian assets, lifting sanctions on Iranian oil, and the lifting of the US blockade on Iranian ports.

Iran would then allow the Strait of Hormuz to reopen, and the two sides would resume talks on Iran's nuclear program. US President Donald Trump has expressed rejection of Iran's proposal due to Iran's urgency and economic pressure. However, he also indicated that US negotiators will continue engaging in further talks this week. Araqchi emphasized that Iran's conditions for reopening the Strait of Hormuz are contingent on the fulfillment of these conditions, asserting that a negotiated solution is the only way to resolve the current impasse.
