Ukraine says Russian drones kill 14, hit Kyiv and Odesa infrastructure

On 27 September, Ukrainian authorities reported that Russian drones killed 14 people and caused extensive damage to infrastructure in Kyiv and the Odesa region. The attack began during a prolonged night of Russian drone strikes across Ukraine, with the Air Force stating that Moscow launched approximately 170 attack drones, including 76 jet-powered Shahed-type UAVs.

In Kyiv, the drones struck buildings in the Solomianskyi and Shevchenkivskyi districts, damaging a school, warehouses, and communications facilities. At least two people were injured, including two 16-year-old girls. A man was killed after a drone hit a non-residential building in the Solomianskyi district, while a single-storey vehicle service station caught fire, with firefighters quickly bringing the blaze under control. Efforts to extinguish the flames prevented the fire from spreading to a nearby food establishment.

In the Odesa region, a separate mass strike resulted in one death and two injuries. The drones damaged a residential building, a medical facility, a hotel, a shop, and a grain storage site. Ukrainian officials confirmed at least 14 fatalities and 57 injuries across the country in the strikes that occurred between September 26 and 27.
