UK tries to stop Trump's diesel export ban

The United Kingdom is engaged in urgent discussions with US authorities regarding President Donald Trump's threat to halt American diesel exports, as the country prepares contingency measures to mitigate a potential supply shock, Chancellor John Healey announced on Monday. Speaking at Labour’s annual conference in Liverpool, Healey revealed that the government has initiated plans for a possible ban, including the utilization of national fuel reserves if required.

He characterized the current UK diesel prices as "extreme" and cautioned that a US export restriction would drive them upwards, according to the BBC.

The stakes are substantial, as the US provided approximately 31% of Britain’s diesel imports in 2025, as per UK government statistics. This potential disruption poses a significant risk to transport, logistics, and industry. President Trump has expressed that his administration is considering the export ban "very seriously" as a strategy to reduce domestic fuel costs ahead of the Nov.
