UAE cuts domestic heliport registration from up to 135 days to two working days under new rules

The United Arab Emirates' aviation authority has streamlined the process for registering domestic heliports, reducing the registration time from up to 135 days to just two working days. This new system eliminates the need for certification and simplifies the regulatory process, all while maintaining aviation safety standards. The UAE General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) explained that this change reflects the maturity of the UAE's aviation sector and demonstrates confidence in a modern, risk-based regulatory approach.

By cutting down on bureaucratic procedures, the UAE aims to create a more attractive environment for investment and development in the vertical aviation sector. Domestic heliports, which previously required certification, will now be registered with the GCAA through a streamlined process. International heliports and other heliports requiring certification will continue to follow the existing certification framework.

These changes are part of the UAE's broader efforts to expand its air mobility and vertical aviation infrastructure, particularly in Dubai and Abu Dhabi. New heliports and vertiports are being developed to accommodate a growing range of helicopter, air-taxi, and electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) operations. The network of vertiports is expected to connect important urban, business, and tourism hubs across the UAE, supporting vertical aviation development and contributing to the country's economic growth.
