Trimble upgrades 4 Carrier TMSs to work with AI agents

Trimble is upgrading its four transportation management systems (TMS) to be compatible with AI agents, according to the company's announcement at the Insight 2026 conference in San Diego. The TMS updates are being made to Innovative, TruckMate, TMW.Suite and Fuel Dispatch, among others, without requiring any platform migration. These updates are part of nearly 20 new features and enhancements shown by Trimble at the conference.

Michael Kornhauser, sector vice president of Transportation & Logistics at Trimble, stated that modernizing a TMS typically means disruption, including changes to data management, integration, and team preparation. However, the company aims to bring innovation directly into customer workflows without forcing disruptive platform overhauls.

The four carrier systems are being transitioned to a browser-based workflow, with more visual planning for Innovative, a cloud-hosted, mobile-responsive web interface for TruckMate, a back-office billing view for TMW.Suite, and a dispatcher's day update for Fuel Dispatch. Behind these new screens, Trimble has built APIs and a Model Context Protocol layer to make the systems easier to integrate and more accessible to agents.

The company's Arc Agent AI tool was highlighted as the key innovation behind the TMS updates. Arc Agent was designed to avoid the trap of bolting a new power source onto an old operational architecture, as previously seen in historical factory transitions from steam engines to electric motors. Instead, Arc Agent was built within Trimble's network, which consists of over 1 million trucks and $60 billion in freight.

The tool features various skills, such as Order Entry, Contract Intake, and the newly added Intelligent RFQ Builder, which structures lanes from rate data supplied by the user. Arc Agent offers a single-tier subscription that includes 10 hours of agent working time per month, with overage hours available.
