Tributes pour in over Dr Hasmah Ali’s death

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 28 — The passing of Dr Siti Hasmah Mohd Ali has sparked an outpouring of tributes from across Malaysia's political and social landscape. The "Ibu Negara" has been mourned by prominent figures, former ministers, and civil servants on social media. Former youth and sports minister Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman described a final meeting with Dr Hasmah, remarking on her warmth and the warmth of their conversation. He expressed his love for her and lamented that it felt as though the meeting had been too brief.

Dewan Rakyat Speaker Tan Sri Johari Abdul hailed Dr Hasmah as a "remarkable female figure" who served with "unwavering commitment and fortitude." He noted her contributions to public health, particularly in maternal and child health, and her efforts in welfare, education, healthcare, women and family development, and community well-being.

Azalina Othman Said, a minister in the Prime Minister's Department, shared a heartfelt tribute on Facebook, describing Dr Hasmah as a personal inspiration. She praised her perseverance, simplicity, devotion to her family, community, and country, and noted that her simplicity had a firmness and gentleness had a strength.

Bukit Bendera MP Syerleena Abdul Rashid reflected on Dr Hasmah's quiet but profound impact on society. She described her as a woman who carried herself with grace and dignity through many chapters of the nation's history. Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow also extended his condolences to the family. He noted that Dr Hasmah's passing leaves behind an enduring legacy that will inspire and be remembered by generations to come.
