Tributes pour in following Siti Hasmah's death

KUALA LUMPUR: The loss of Tun Dr Siti Hasmah Mohamad Ali, who passed away at 100 years old, has elicited an overwhelming response of grief from Malaysians across the country. Social media platforms were inundated with messages of sympathy and prayers following the news of her demise. Political figures, religious leaders, organisations, and individuals from various backgrounds mourned the passing of this respected national figure.

Communications Minister Datuk Seri Fahmi Fadzil hailed Dr Siti Hasmah as a woman who had made significant contributions and provided unwavering support to her late husband, former Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad. Tun Dr Siti Hasmah was known for her steadfast presence by his side, accompanying him through every challenge, triumph, and transformation with quiet and selfless dedication.

The contributions, love, and sacrifices of Tun Dr Siti Hasmah will forever be cherished, Fahmi Fadzil stated. The president of the Parti Islam Se-Malaysia (PAS), Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang, also extended his condolences, recognizing her as a medical and healthcare figure who devoted a considerable portion of her life to serving society and the nation.

As a doctor who worked in public health, particularly in Kedah, she played a crucial role in improving healthcare services and community welfare, including women's and children's health.

Former Prime Minister's Department (Religious Affairs) Minister Datuk Dr Zulkifli Mohamad Al-Bakri expressed his sorrow upon learning of her death, which he received after completing his morning prayer at the Prophet's Mosque in Medina. Dr Zulkifli Al-Bakri acknowledged the pain of her loss, stating that everything with Allah has a predetermined time. He urged patience and hoped for a blessing for her soul.

Rafizi Ramli, a former Economy Minister, conveyed his condolences to Dr Siti Hasmah's family, offering prayers for her soul to be blessed and join the faithful. The opposition Democratic Action Party (DAP) also issued an official statement, praising Dr Siti Hasmah's contributions and service to the country, especially in healthcare and community welfare, which will always be appreciated.

Born in 1926, Siti Hasmah was among Malaysia's pioneering Malay women doctors. She continued to serve society through various community and charitable activities throughout her life. Siti Hasmah departed from the world at 9.20am on today at the National Heart Institute (IJN) in Kuala Lumpur.
