Tiki Barber Doesn’t Hold Back on Vikings’ J.J. McCarthy Trade With Giants

Minnesota Vikings traded J.J. McCarthy to the New York Giants for a 2027 fifth-round draft pick, handing the former first-round choice a new beginning in New York City. McCarthy will serve as the backup to Jameis Winston following an injury to starting quarterback Jaxson Dart. Giants legend Tiki Barber voiced his negative opinion on the trade, saying, "My first reaction is, ‘Ugh, I don’t love this.'"

Barber pointed out McCarthy's injury history for his first two years in the league and how he didn't win the backup job. In fact, Carson Wentz and Kyler Murray both outplayed him. Despite these concerns, McCarthy is entering the largest market in the U.S., which means he must perform well to avoid any media backlash. The former Vikings QB must learn the Giants' playbook as his opportunity to start could come sooner rather than later.

While Barber sees more negatives than positives about the trade, he did acknowledge one positive. "J.J. McCarthy has a live arm," Barber said. "It’s a big swing is what it feels like to me."
