‘The stokvel party is crumbling’: ANC in KZN says it will take back eThekwini

The ANC in KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) is regaining strength and confident of winning the City of eThekwini in the upcoming local government elections, according to party officials. Party president Cyril Ramaphosa attended a recent campaign rally alongside other National Executive Committee members. Siboniso Duma, the party's deputy convenor in KZN, assured supporters that the ANC is strong enough to contest most municipalities, including eThekwini.

Despite suffering a significant vote loss in the last general elections, the party's secretary-general and National Working Committee disbanded the provincial executive committee and appointed a task team to address the party's decline. Duma highlighted challenges such as crime and inadequate water provision in some eThekwini wards as obstacles to the party's success.

However, he emphasized progress in addressing community concerns and appealed to Ramaphosa to deploy the military to assist law enforcement in problematic areas. A member of the ANC's provincial task team, Thanudoxolo Sabelo, commented on the weakening of the uMkhonto we Sizwe (MK) party in KZN due to internal issues. He noted that former ANC members who defected to MK are now returning to the ANC, expressing satisfaction with the party's revival.
