The iPhone Duo may already have its first killer app: a virtual Walkman

Pre-orders for the new iPhone Duo won't begin until later in October, but the device may already have its first killer app. Indie developer Vidit Bhargava has created an app called Duo-Man that replicates the experience of using a classic Walkman on the innovative foldable smartphone. The app utilizes the Duo's two screens - a 7.6-inch inner display when opened and a 5.4-inch outer display when closed - to emulate the function of a traditional cassette player.

Opening the Duo to pick music and inserting a "tape" before closing it shut to start listening creates a nostalgic, tactile experience, even though the device is digital. The developer, who is a long-term Walkman enthusiast, tried to make the app as authentic as possible by incorporating real Walkman button clicks and static noise.

The app won second place at the Bitrig hackathon and quickly gained attention on social media, leading Bhargava to consider it a potential "killer app".
