Thane: Congress, NCP-SP Stage Protests Over Voter Rolls, Form 6 Changes And CEC Gyanesh Kumar | VIDEO

Thane, September 28, 2026: The Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) alliance — comprising the Congress and the Nationalist Congress Party-Sharp (NCP-SP) — staged synchronized protests in Thane on Monday, directed at Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar over alleged voter manipulation and alterations to voter registration forms. This coordinated campaign follows reports of 14 written dissenting opinions from Election Commissioners Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Vivek Joshi against Kumar's unilateral decisions, including modifications to the new Form 6 under the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process.

NCP-SP, led by General Secretary Dr. Jitendra Awhad and District President Manoj Pradhan, organized a mock procession to the Thane Municipal Corporation office. In a symbolic gesture, Kumar was depicted on a donkey, with protesters brandishing placards criticizing his governance. Conversely, two representatives of the dissenting commissioners were mounted on horses and received floral tributes.

NCP-SP National Spokesperson Jitendra Awhad remarked, "The Constitution mandates equal authority for all three Election Commissioners; a 2:1 majority rule applies." Awhad emphasized that unilateral changes to Form 6 violate parliamentary authority and erode public confidence. Congress Party concurrently gathered outside the Thane District Collector's residence, engaging in symbolic sit-ups to protest the unauthorized deletion of eligible voters.

Kumar, it's over! Congress leaders argued that such arbitrary deletions directly infringe upon citizens' democratic rights, demanding full accountability, restoration of affected voters, and immediate action against the Chief Election Commissioner. Both parties warned that continued agitation against ECI practices would escalate across Maharashtra until transparency is fully restored.
