Suspected Cato Manor serial rapist faces more charges

The suspected serial rapist from Cato Manor is now facing a total of 27 charges. During his appearance in the Durban Magistrate's Court on Monday, the state added more charges to the existing 15. These new charges include kidnapping, housebreaking with the intent to rape, and theft. The rapist, a 46-year-old man, was arrested on September 17, 2026, following extensive investigations by police officers from the Serial and Rape Unit.

He had been terrorizing women in Cato Manor between 2014 and 2025. The accused, whose name can be revealed once he pleads, had initially planned to apply for bail but has since abandoned that application. National Prosecuting Authority spokesperson Natasha Ramkisson-Kara announced that the matter was remanded for further investigation, with the matter now set to be decided on October 28, 2026, by the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for the additional charges.
