Sokoto LGAs to regain electricity after 3-year blackout

Residents of Yabo and Shagari local government areas within Sokoto State are poised to resume reliable electricity supply, following a blackout that persisted for over three years due to the sabotage of power infrastructure. The project to restore electricity was spearheaded by Prof. Garba Musa Maitafsir, the APC candidate for Yabo-Shagari Federal Constituency. The inauguration of this project took place at a ceremony attended by political leaders, community representatives and other stakeholders.

Prof. Maitafsir pledged to complete the project within a period of 30 days and had already deposited N150 million as the initial fund. He expressed readiness to contribute additional resources if needed, due to the scale of damage inflicted on the power infrastructure. The Government of Nigeria has set an ambitious target of creating one million jobs through global outsourcing by the year 2030. In addition, the Ogun State Police have apprehended an individual suspected of fraud, who was found in possession of 25 ATM cards.

Engr. Sani Aliyu, the Managing Director of the contracting company, Sanjay Engineering, confirmed to residents that the company would meet the agreed timeline for completion of the project. Dr. Zayyanu Ladan, speaking on behalf of the Concerned Citizens Forum of Yabo, acknowledged the efforts of Maitafsir in sponsoring the project.

He also commended Maitafsir for providing communication devices to local vigilantes and a vehicle for cemetery services. Furthermore, Dr. Ladan urged Kaduna Electric to maintain a consistent power supply once the restoration work is completed.

The APC Chairman in Shagari, Muhammad Sarduuna, expressed appreciation for Maitafsir's support to constituents, highlighting the distribution of six truckloads of grains, N10 million and motorcycles as part of this support. The APC Chairman in Yabo, Alhaji Salisu Tela, also noted the long-standing anticipation of the restoration project. Various speakers at the ceremony emphasized the need for the people to reciprocate this assistance by casting their votes massively in favor of the party in the upcoming elections.
