Ghanaian lawyer and lecturer Bobby Banson has released a list of Ghanaian rappers who have made notable contributions to the country's music industry. In his article titled "The Debate Over the Crown: Who is Ghana’s Greatest Rapper?", Banson outlines his criteria for the list which include consistency, commercial success, investment in young talent, lyrical dexterity, and industry relevance.

He notes that the debate over which rapper deserves to be called the greatest in Ghana is a topic that has generated strong opinions and arguments over the years. For the argument to have substance, there needs to be a set of criteria against which the artists can be assessed. The criteria Banson used includes consistency and longevity, commercial success, investment in young talent, lyrical dexterity, and industry relevance.

He also takes into account generational distinction, acknowledging that the music industry has changed over time and that each generation has operated in different circumstances. The older generation of Ghanaian rappers includes Sarkodie, Omar Sterling, Okyeame Kwame, Reggie Rockstone, Obrafour, and Lord Kenya. These artists have significantly contributed to the development, evolution, and commercialization of Ghanaian rap.

The younger generation of rappers includes Medikal, Kweku Smoke, Strongman, and Lyrical Joe. These artists have had to navigate a transformed industry with streaming, social media, and digital distribution, and their inclusion reflects their ability to establish distinct identities, maintain relevance, and demonstrate the necessary technical and commercial qualities.
