Russia’s new jet-powered drones mark latest evolution in air war above Ukraine

On September 27, Russian attacks across Ukraine resulted in 14 deaths and 57 injuries, with the Odesa Oblast being the primary target of a mass strike. Russian forces launched 170 Shahed-type attack drones, including 76 jet-powered versions, along with decoy drones, according to Ukraine's Air Force. Ukrainian air defenses shot down 147 drones, while strikes were recorded at 18 locations.

President Volodymyr Zelensky reported that residential buildings, energy infrastructure, and other civilian infrastructure were targeted across various oblasts, including Odesa, Kharkiv, Sumy, Mykolaiv, Kherson, Poltava, Zhytomyr, and Kyiv.

In southeastern Zaporizhzhia Oblast, four people were killed and five injured in Russian attacks. The northeastern city of Sumy suffered a Russian glide bomb attack, killing two and injuring 28, including four children. Dnipropetrovsk Oblast experienced Russian attacks that killed two and injured six. Kharkiv Oblast saw attacks on the city of Kharkiv and surrounding regions, resulting in two deaths and three injuries.

Kyiv faced Russian drone attacks that injured five and damaged residential buildings and warehouses. Kyiv Oblast had 23 facilities damaged by Russian attacks, leading to the injury of two people. Southern Kherson Oblast witnessed Russian attacks that injured one person and caused damage to high-rise buildings, houses, shops, and vehicles.

Poltava Oblast saw power lines damaged following a Russian drone crash, leaving around 500 customers without electricity temporarily.

President Zelensky cited that over the past week, Russia launched more than 2,200 attack drones against Ukraine, alongside approximately 1,650 aerial bombs and 38 missiles.
