Russia hits business center in downtown Dnipro, killing 3, injuring 12

Ukrainian forces have targeted Russia's railway infrastructure in Bryansk Oblast, according to Yegor Kovalchuk, the acting governor of the region. In a Telegram post, Kovalchuk reported that Ukrainian drones caused significant damage, including collapsing a bridge and derailing 28 rail cars. This region serves as a crucial launchpad for Russia's strikes on Kyiv and other areas in Ukraine. For the past month, Russian drone attacks have been a regular occurrence, originating from this region.

In the Dyatkovo–Lyudinovo line, a drone attack resulted in the partial collapse of a bridge and the derailment of 10 cars. Meanwhile, 18 empty gondola cars derailed in the Unecha district, and the track was damaged in the Navlia district without halting train operations. Kovalchuk stated that no casualties were reported in these drone strikes. Repairs are planned once the National Guard has inspected the affected areas.

Despite the apparent limited scope of Ukraine's strikes on Bryansk, the scale of Russia's railway attacks against Ukraine is substantial. According to Ukrzaliznytsia, the Ukrainian state railway operator, Ukraine suffered over 1,600 attacks on its rolling stock and infrastructure during the first eight months of 2026. Russia has damaged more than 500 locomotives since the invasion began, with more than half of those losses occurring in 2026 alone.

The campaign has increasingly targeted moving trains to disrupt the transport corridors carrying Ukraine's exports and supplies.

The attacks extend beyond the borders of Ukraine, reaching as far as Poland. On September 13, a Russian Geran drone targeted a passenger train's locomotive near the Yahodyn crossing, just two kilometers from the Polish border. The drone was detected in time, allowing passengers, including former CIA director David Petraeus, to be evacuated safely. Additionally, a diplomatic train carrying former British Prime Minister Boris Johnson had departed ahead of the attack.
