Rincon town hall tells foreign residents how to get on the 2027 voting list, including Brits

In Rincon de la Victoria, the local government has launched an initiative to inform foreign residents about the process of registering for the upcoming municipal elections on May 23, 2027. Mayor Francisco Salado emphasized the importance of providing ample notice to prevent last-minute rushes. EU nationals and citizens from countries with a reciprocity agreement with Spain, such as Britain, Norway, Ecuador, Colombia, and Chile, can participate if they meet the age requirement, legal residency, and are enrolled on the local padron.

Councillor for internal affairs Pepi Carnero explained that applications can be submitted through various channels, including online, at the town hall, or by mail. The council will make the official forms available in their offices to help residents prepare early. EU residents who haven't already expressed their intent to vote in Spain must declare this by December 30, 2026, to be eligible for the May 2027 elections.

Nationality reciprocity countries must apply between December 1, 2026, and January 15, 2027, for their information to be sent to the provincial electoral census office.

To complete the registration, applicants typically need a valid TIE or residence card, a recent padron certificate, and a passport. Additional proof of continuous legal residency, such as old cards or police residence certificates, may be required by some offices. Digital applications are available through the INE electronic office, while paper forms can be sent or delivered to Rincon town hall. The deadline for inclusion in the 2027 voting lists is firm; failure to apply in time will result in non-inclusion.
